Never afraid to ruffle feathers within the industry, MP3tunes boss Michael Robertson has published a blog post comparing digital music services’ partnerships with Facebook to artists who ‘sign away their souls’ to labels. Robertson claims that services were pressured to force their users to register through Facebook in the run-up to the social network’s f8 conference.
MP3tunes ups its free storage space to 10GB
Music locker service MP3tunes has announced that it is now offering users 10GB of free storage space, rather than its existing 2GB. The company has also issued some stats, saying that the average MP3tunes locker holds around 1,452 songs, while the service has nearly 500,000 users.
Michael Robertson predicts `overnight’ cloud upgrade for iTunes
MP3tunes boss Michael Robertson is stirring again, this time digging into Apple’s likely strategy for its iTunes Store. “Leveraging their ubiquitous iTunes software Apple plans to upgrade their users almost overnight to a cloud music service in an ambitious move to beat Amazon and others to a cloud music service,” he blogs, saying that the strategy is also designed to “sidestep new licenses from the major labels”.
